Zamek Rycerski Lipa
Facts and practical information
Lipa Castle - a castle in the village of Lipa near Bolkow on the banks of the Nysa Mała River, at 375 m above sea level.
The castle is surrounded by a dry moat. It was probably built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries on the initiative of one of the Silesian knightly families and was intended to serve at that time as a watchtower built in the Gothic style. At that time the building consisted of a square residential tower, surrounded by buildings.
In the 17th century the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. It was extended by the Zedlitz family: Ernst, Sigismund or his son Bartel.
Later it passed successively under the rule of the von Reibnitz and von Nimptsch families. When it lost its military importance it was used as a warehouse and a source of building stone. In 1821, a significant part of the building was pulled down and the material was used to build farm buildings. In 1834 it was bought by Count Rudolph von Stillfried-Rattonitz. At that time the castle was renovated and rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. The last renovation took place in the 1970s, when many elements of the building were irreparably damaged. At present, the tower, whose shape resembled that of Bolków castle, no longer exists, neither does the dovetail. After being nationalized it fell into ruins. The stone portals, Gothic and Renaissance window frames were stolen.
