Kopiec Jagiełły
Facts and practical information
Jagiełło Mound - a 5-metre-high mound raised in August 1959 by participants of the Polish Scouting Association's All-Polish Rally of Work Circles, 1.3 km southeast of the Grunwald Monument on the Grunwald battlefield. The site is a hypothetical command post of King Władysław Jagiełło shortly before the battle and during its first phase. On the top of the mound there is a mast with symbolic royal flags.
At the foot of the mound there are two scout boulders: on the first one there is an inscription: "KOPIEC JAGIEŁŁA USPED IN AUGUST 1959 BY PARTICIPANTS OF THE GENERAL POLISH JAGELLA WORKING RALLY OF THE ZHP MEMORIZING THE KING'S POSITION BEFORE THE BATTLE OF 15 July 1410". on the second one there is a plaque with an image of the Scout Cross and the coat of arms of the Community of Grunwald and an inscription: ON JULY 15, 2011 ON THE XXTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE GRUNWALD COMMUNITY THE GRUNWALD TEAMS BROUGHT TO THE JAGIELLO MOUND THE SOIL FROM THE BATTLEFIELDS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WHERE THEY FOUGHT FOR FREE POLAND. THE PLAQUE WAS FUNDED BY THE MUNICIPALITY OF GRUNWALD. The boulder was unveiled by the Honorary President of the "Community of Grunwald Squads" and Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Grunwald Hm. Barbara Bogdańska-Pawłowska and the Head of the Municipality of Grunwald Henryk Kacprzyk.
From the mound there is an extensive view of the battlefield. The place hosts fireworks during Grunwald Rallies, organized by "Wspólnota Drużyn Grunwaldzkich" and the Warmia and Mazury Region of the Polish Scouting Association.
