Dzicza Góra
Facts and practical information
Dzicza Góra - the second highest peak in the Rudawy Janowickie after Skalnik.
Wild Mountain rises in the main ridge of the range between the Volk Mountain in the northeast and the Belec Mountain in the south. North-west from the peak there is a long arm connecting with the Strużnice Mountains, whereas the arm descending in the east direction descends to the Rędzińska Pass, separating the main ridge of the Rudawy Janowickie from the massif of the Wielka Kopa.
The western slopes are built of Variscan granites with aplite veins, the top is built of Silurian phyllites with graphite and sericite and shale, while the eastern slopes are built of quartz shale, amphibolites and greenschists. In the past, the slopes of the mountain were mined; on the eastern arm from Rêdziny one can find former workings and quarries.
The slopes of the mountain are covered with spruce forest planted artificially in the 19th century. Only here and there can be found remains of the original stand - beech admixtures. Due to the worsening sanitary condition of the forest in the nineteenth and twentieth century, the tree stand of the Wild Mountain started to gradually disappear, and hollows were formed even in the highest parts of the mountain. The unfavorable situation was stopped only in the second half of the 20th century thanks to the rational forest management consisting in planting trees from properly selected seeds and pest control. Deforestation of the upper parts of the Wild Mountain, which did not cover only the summit, made it well recognizable from a distance - the characteristic feature for the observer is the "head" in the form of a clump of spruce forest on the top.
It is located in the Rudawy Landscape Park.
The top of the Wild Mountain is inaccessible for tourists, no path leads to it. On the western slope, about 50 m below the summit, the mountain is traversed by the Ridge Path connecting Wołek with Skalnik. On this path a blue trail was marked, which is part of the international hiking trail E3. On the northern slope the blue trail connects with the yellow trail leading from Wielka Kopa towards Wołek and further towards Janowice Wielkie. Thanks to the deforestation of the upper slopes of the Wild Mountain it is a viewing point with a view of the eastern part of the Rudawy Janowickie and the Central Sudety Mountains.
