Mnich Małołącki, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Mnich Małołącki - the westernmost crag in the Mnichowe Turni group in the Mała Łąki Valley in the Polish West Tatra Mountains. Its western walls descend to the Niżniej Świstówka, while the northern walls to the gully descending from below the Kondracka Pass. In the south it descends by walls to the Cave of Cave Seekers, in the east direction through Mnichowy Prze喚ód it joins the higher part of Mnichowa Grana.
Mnich Małołącki, or simply Mnich, is one of the three hills, whose names come from the interwar and earlier years. These names were used by shepherds grazing in the past on the Little Meadow pasture.
Mnich Małołącki, like all other Mnich Towers, is made of carbonate rocks. Although it is the lowest of the Mnich Towers, it is an outstanding crag. It is easily accessible only from Mnichowy Przechodz. Its west wall is about 130 m high and in its upper part there is an overhanging pillar. Until 1982 it was allowed to climb here, but the overhang has not been overcome, the climbing routes avoid the overhanging pillar. First ascent : Andrzej Mróz, Jerzy Potocki and Maciej Włodek on May 28th and 30th 1965, 40 hours. Later three more ascents were made: along the edge of the west wall, along the right part of the west wall, and along the "Orange Lynx". All these routes are described by Władysław Cywiński in the 2nd volume of his guidebook Tatra.
On the left side of the pillar of the Malo³ajec Monk there is the Frost's Notch, which turns into a crack below, and at the very bottom into a narrow chimney. On the right side of the pillar there are two terraces; one at a height of about 30 m, the other over 90 m. The first terrace can be easily accessed from the south side, while the second provides an easy retreat from the wall.
