Kalisz Book Monument - a monument in Kalisz located in the downtown area of Planty.
Designed by Wladyslaw Koscielniak and executed by Jerzy Sobocinski in 1978, it is a rare horizontal monument in Poland.
It was erected to commemorate the filling up of the Babinka Canal in the 1940s by German soldiers, who flooded there thousands of books from Polish and Jewish libraries. The inscription on the monument says about it: Here, in the buried bed of the Prosna River, the Nazis destroyed tens of thousands of books from the collections of Kalisz public libraries. The monument was unveiled on May 11, 1978.
