Cerkiew Przemienienia Pańskiego, Lublin
Facts and practical information
Transfiguration Cathedral - Orthodox cathedral in Lublin. The main church of the Lublin-Chelm Diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the seat of the Lublin Transfiguration Parish. It is located on Ruska Street.
The current building was erected in 1607-1633 on the site of two older temples. It was consecrated in 1633 by Kyiv Metropolitan Peter Mogilev. During its construction and for the next several decades the ownership of the church was the subject of a heated dispute between the Orthodox and the Uniates, who finally took possession of the building in 1695. The Lublin parish returned to the Orthodox Church in 1875, after the liquidation of the Uniate diocese of Chelm by the tsarist administration and army.
Special veneration is given to the copies of the Jerusalem and Lublin Icons of the Mother of God kept in the cathedral.
The temple was listed in the Register of Historic Places on January 21, 1960 and February 21, 1967 under the number A/227.
