The Lighthouse of São Miguel-o-Anjo is a historic maritime beacon located in the coastal city of Porto, Portugal. This emblematic structure, standing as a silent guardian over the Douro River's mouth, dates back to the 16th century, making it one of the oldest lighthouses in the country.

Constructed in 1527 under the orders of Italian architect Francesco da Cremona, the lighthouse was an initiative of D. Miguel da Silva, the then Bishop of Viseu. This unique monument initially served as both a chapel and a lighthouse, which is a testament to its dual purpose of guiding seafarers and offering spiritual solace. The lighthouse tower is adorned with a Renaissance-style cupola and an angel sculpture, which played a role in the naming of the site.

Despite its small size, the Lighthouse of São Miguel-o-Anjo holds significant historical value. It was the first lighthouse in Portugal to use firewood as a source of light for navigation purposes.
