This beach is part of the Plano de Ordenamento da Orla Costeira da Ilha Terceira that covers the municipalities of Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória as per Decreto Regulamentar Regional n.º 1/2005/A.

This is a sandy beach located next to Praia Grande, near the Air Base No. 4, the Portuguese military unit where the air forces of Portugal and the United States are installed. This beach acquired the name it has seen for many years having been reserved practically for the use of the Military of this air base, since it is next to the officers' club building.
