Facts About Gogoși
Gogoși, also known as "pancove" in Transylvania and "pampuște" in Bukovina, are delightful Romanian pastries that closely resemble filled doughnuts. The term "gogoși" is actually the plural form of "gogoașă" in Romanian. These sweet treats are crafted by shaping dough into flattened spheres, deep-frying them to golden perfection, and sometimes dusting them with icing sugar. Unlike traditional doughnuts, gogoși do not have a hole in the center. Instead, they are often filled with a variety of delicious ingredients such as chocolate, apricot jam, strawberry jam, cream cheese, or even feta cheese.
The origins of gogoși are believed to date back to classical antiquity, during the period when Romania was part of the Roman Empire. They might be linked to "aliter dulcia" sweet dough balls mentioned in the ancient Roman recipe collection known as "Apicius." This historical connection adds an extra layer of richness to the experience of enjoying these delectable pastries!
