Monastery Snagov - a Romanian Orthodox monastery located on an island in the northern part of Lake Snagov, near Snagov.
The monastery on the island of Snagov was probably founded at the end of the fourteenth century by Hospodar Wallachia Mircz Stary. The current buildings of the monastery, erected on the spot of older buildings, were mentioned in 1408 for the time. They stayed here, among others Wład Palownik and Mircza Pastuch.
The famous printing house operated at the monastery, founded in 1643 by the enlightened Hospodar Mateusz Basarb. In the years 1694-1705, Antim Ivireanul printed books in Romanian, Old-Carter-Slavic, Starogrecki, and even Arabic.
The monastery gained some fame, from 1933, when the archaeological excavations in situ led to the discovery of the crypt, which was then identified as the grave of Dracula.
The monastery is inscribed on the list of historic buildings under the number IF-II-A-A-15312.
