Biserica de lemn din Valea Sarii

Facts and practical information

The wooden church of Valea de Jos is located in the homonymous locality in Bihor county and is dedicated to "St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel". This is the first of a series of replica churches modelled on the one built in Brădet, one of the most significant achievements in the region and in the whole of Transylvania. The wooden church in Valea de Jos was built in 1734 by a craftsman from Sâlava, Nicoară Freanțu from Agrij, and by the brother of the craftsman of the church in Brădet, Gheorghe Petric, who came from Abrud County. This church was followed by those of Ghighișeni and Rieni, inspired by the Brădet model and its copy in Valea de Jos. The church is on the new list of historical monuments under the LMI code: BH-II-m-A-01226.
