The Wooden Church of Crivina de Sus
Facts and practical information
The wooden church in Crivina de Sus, commune of Pietroasa, Timiș county was built in 1676 and repaired in 1778. It is dedicated to "Cuvioasa Paraschiva" and is on the new list of historical monuments under the LMI code TM-II-m-A-06214.
The church, one of the most representative places of worship in Banat made of wood, and the oldest, is in an advanced state of decay. The roof is extremely dilapidated, bats fly freely through the nave and altar. The small and poor community of Crivina de Sus, in which Orthodox are in the minority and Pentecostals predominate, cannot financially support the repair of the church. The young parish priest's efforts to save the church are constantly hampered by the lack of involvement of the authorities.
Of the 14 icons painted on wood from the church of Crivina de Sus, 7 are in the Museum of Old Church Art at the Metropolitan Cathedral and are listed in the museum's inventory under numbers 7183-7189; 3 icons are in the collection of old church objects of the Lugoj Deanery, and 4 icons are in the church.
