Kinotavr

Kinotavr, also known as the Sochi Open Russian Film Festival, has been a cornerstone of the Russian film industry since 1991. Held annually in the picturesque city of Sochi, it is the largest national film festival in Russia. Originally established during the Soviet era, the festival aimed to support local filmmakers amid a period of political and economic transformation.

In 1994, the festival was divided into two distinct events: the Open Russian Film Festival and the International Film Festival. By 2005, under new leadership, the festival refocused on celebrating Russian cinema. Kinotavr is dedicated to promoting the Russian film industry and garnering international recognition for Russian films.

The festival bestows several prestigious awards, including the Grand Prize, Best Director, Best Debut, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Music. Over the years, additional accolades such as the Second Prize, Special Jury Prize, Diamond Rose Prize, and various awards from film guilds and organizations have been introduced.

Kinotavr has a tradition of honoring exceptional films. Some notable past Grand Prize winners include "Prisoner of the Mountains" "Brother" "Luna Papa" "The Geographer Drank His Globe Away" and "Arrhythmia." The festival serves as an outstanding platform for showcasing Russian talent and fostering collaboration within the film industry.
