Vladivostok oceanarium "Aquamir" - marine museum, which includes dry and live exhibitions, is one of the attractions of Vladivostok.
It is managed by the city municipal unitary enterprise "Akvamir", established in 1999. The oceanarium building and a part of the aquariums belong to MUPV "Akvamir", aquarium systems and equipment still remain on the balance sheet of FSUE "TINRO-Center".
It has two exhibition halls with a total area of more than 1500 m². In the showcases are collections of seashells, corals, sponges, fish and other marine animals. There are also unique exhibits: skull of sea, albino calanus embryo, fish and birds of the tropics, penguins and more. The big round hall has 13 aquariums, where inhabitants of freshwater reservoirs of the Far East, Peter the Great Gulf and tropical seas are placed. Four cold-water aquariums feature the inhabitants of the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk.
Oceanarium was built in 1990 by the institute "Primograzhdanproekt", received its first visitors on July 12, 1991, the day of the fisherman.
The technical equipment was supplied and installed by the Japanese company "NITIRO Corporation". There are 29 permanently installed aquariums with a volume of water from 4 to 30 thousand liters, also about 40 aquariums are placed in the exposition and laboratories of the oceanarium.
In total, the aquarium contains about 120 species of marine animals.
