The Vrubel Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts is a museum in Omsk, Russia. One of the largest in Siberia, its art collection includes collections of foreign and Russian art from antiquity to the present day.
Founded December 21, 1924 in the former Governor-General's Palace, built in 1859-1862 by architect F. F. Wagner, when it was opened an art gallery at the West Siberian Regional Museum. The first to be shown were about 90 works by famous Russian artists.
The first director of the Museum was F.V. Melyokhin who visited Moscow and Leningrad to choose new works from the Winter and Marble Palaces, the museum of the Academy of Arts, and the collections of famous Russian statesmen to enrich the museum collection. In 1927 it contained 2,555 exhibits, and in the 1930s the collection of the Art Department of the Museum was the most substantial in Western Siberia with 4,230 exhibits.
In 1940, the art department of the West Siberian Regional Museum became independent and was called Omsk State Museum of Fine Arts, and since 1954 - Omsk Regional Museum of Fine Arts. At the present time the museum also occupies the second building in the former Trade Building, erected in 1914 by A. D. Kryachkov.
In 2008, the City Museum "Art of Omsk" and the Museum of M. A. Vrubel, together with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Omsk region held an exhibition devoted to the 20 anniversary of the informal association "ECHO
In November 2019, a new building opened on Museinaya Street in the historic building of the Salamander Insurance Company, where, in addition to the permanent exhibition of 20th-21st-century art from the museum's collection, the Hermitage-Siberia Center, the State Hermitage's first representative office beyond the Urals, was housed.
The day after the massacre in Bucha, a banner with the letter "Z" appeared on the facade of the museum.
It is the largest depository of artistic values in the region, with more than 24,000 items in its holdings.
