Lipetsk Zoo cooperates with zoos in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nikolaev, Penza, and Perm, exchanging animals and various zoological information.
The main treasure of the zoo is the liger, because there are only two of them in Russia - in Lipetsk and Novosibirsk zoos.
In the fall of 2006, the so-called "contact children's zoo" opened here. It is a large aviary that children can enter. There are about 10 species of harmless animals in the enclosure, such as rabbits, goats, a small llama, chickens, and other types of birds. Children can pet and feed them.
The zoo has almost doubled in size, and visiting it has become even more interesting. The city administration allocated an additional three hectares for expansion. On the new territory there is a safari park for ungulates, as well as thematic corners "Animals of Africa" and "Predators".
