National Orchid Garden
Facts and practical information
Nestled in the heart of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the National Orchid Garden is a vibrant tapestry of colors, showcasing the world's most comprehensive collection of orchids. Since its inauguration in 1995, the garden has become a must-see destination for both plant enthusiasts and casual visitors alike, earning its place as a park of exceptional beauty and botanical significance.
Sprawling across three hectares, the National Orchid Garden is home to over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids of orchids, with around 600 species and hybrids on display at any one time. The garden's design is a thoughtful representation of the four seasons, with color-themed zones that provide a visual feast as well as an educational journey through the diverse orchid family.
Visitors can wander through the Spring zone, with its bright and lively tones, before transitioning into the Summer zone, where the warm colors of the orchids mirror the intensity of the tropical season. The Autumn zone offers a palette of mature, muted tones, while the Winter zone presents a refreshing display of cool blues and whites, reminiscent of the crispness of the season.
One of the garden's highlights is the VIP Orchid Garden, where orchids named after dignitaries and celebrities are on display. This tribute area includes orchids named after world leaders and renowned personalities, celebrating the Garden's role as a diplomatic and cultural ambassador.
The National Orchid Garden is not only a feast for the eyes but also a center for botanical and horticultural research, with a focus on the conservation of orchid species and hybridization. It stands as a testament to Singapore's dedication to preserving biodiversity and fostering appreciation for the natural world.
