Underwater World
Facts and practical information
Underwater World, once a mesmerizing marine park located on the offshore Singaporean island of Sentosa, was an underwater oasis that captivated visitors from around the globe. This attraction featured an 83-meter-long travelator that moved guests through a transparent tunnel while they were surrounded by an enthralling array of marine life. The experience was akin to walking along the ocean floor, offering an up-close view of more than 2,500 marine creatures from 250 different species.
Established in 1991, Underwater World Singapore was not just a tourist attraction but also a center for conservation and marine education. It allowed guests to interact with the marine environment in a unique and engaging way. The facility included touch pools, where visitors could feel the texture of starfish and stingrays, and dive programs for those looking to immerse themselves completely in the underwater experience.
Despite its popularity and the joy it brought to many, Underwater World Singapore closed its doors permanently on June 26, 2016, after 25 years of operation. The decision was made following the expiration of its lease and the opening of newer attractions on Sentosa Island. The closure marked the end of an era for Singapore's marine tourism, as Underwater World had been a pioneering institution in showcasing the beauty and diversity of marine life to the public.
