Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum

Nestled in the heart of Singapore's Chinatown, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum is a remarkable cultural landmark that attracts both worshippers and tourists alike. This majestic four-story temple, completed in 2007, is said to house the left canine tooth of Buddha, which was recovered from his funeral pyre in Kushinagar, India.

The temple's design is a harmonious blend of the Buddhist mandala, a universal symbol of the cosmos, and the art and culture of Buddhism in the Tang dynasty. The exterior is characterized by intricate patterns and richly adorned pagoda roofs, while the interior is a serene space filled with religious artifacts, intricate carvings, and stunning gold elements.

Visitors are greeted by the Hundred Dragons Hall, which features 100 dragons and 1000 small Buddha statues, setting the tone for the spiritual experience ahead. The Sacred Light Hall on the ground floor is where the gold stupa, the symbolic structure containing the sacred tooth relic, can be found. The relic is displayed on the fourth floor in the Relic Chamber, which is accessible only at specific times for viewing.

The museum aspect of the temple provides an educational journey through Buddhist art and history across Asia. It showcases a vast collection of Buddhist texts and artifacts, some dating back hundreds of years. The Eminent Sangha Museum is a tribute to prominent Buddhist monks, while the Cultural Museum includes exhibits on Asian Buddhist practices.
