Likawa Castle - the ruins of a medieval castle, rising over the village of Likavka in the Ruzomberk poviat, in the Żyliński country, in northern Slovakia.
The castle was erected on a rocky tan at the foot of the front Chocz, on the border of the Liptowska Valley and the Choczańskie Mountains. He was the most important fortress of Dolny Liptów. He guarded an important strategically trade route, leading from Liptów to Orava and further to Poland.
Built after 1335 on the order of a powerful feudal gentleman, Żupan Donč. In 1341 he was already the seat of the military crew, guarding the above -mentioned trail and the board of royal estates in Dolny Liptów. At the beginning of the 18th century in the hands of Kurus Franciszek II Rakocz. Demanded in 1707 on the order of Rakocz, giving way to the Habsburg army.
Conservation and reconstruction works began in the 1970s. As a result, they were rebuilt, among others The tower of the walled old gate, the third gate, fragments of the walls of the lower and upper castle. The tower was made available for tourists and the courtyards of the former Lower Castle.
