Priečne sedlo, Tatra National Park
Facts and practical information
Red bench - a pass in a side, leaving a small ice peak in the jumper of the Slovak High Tatras.
The pass is formed by two deep indentations between a small ice peak and a downhill threatening over the pass. The height of 2352 m commonly administered in the literature could actually refer to the speech, which, according to new measurements from the air laser aviation scanning, rises to a height of 2353 m. The eastern slopes from the pass fall into the ice valley, west slopes to Strzelecka Valley in the upper floor of the Staroleśna Valley. A tourist trail was built through the red bench in 1935–37. The route is exposed and secured with chains. These are one of the longest chains in the Tatra Mountains, while the pass itself was named in 1956 by Jan Alfred Szczepański "Slovak Zawrat". For many years, this trail was one -way, in 2013 additional chains and buckles were installed to ensure safe passage in both directions. In August 2021, an alternative Via Ferrata route with difficulties A/B was opened for tourists. It was led on the rocks above the classic tourist trail. An unmarked, easiest way to a small ice peak leads from the pass.
The red bench consists of two saddles separated by a small turnian called a small downhill. The saddle located closer to the small ice peak is called Wyżnia Czerwona Bench, and the saddle directly below the Speak is called the Lowland Red Bench. The trail leads a red bench through Wyżnia. Via Ferrata exceeds the ridge about 10 m above the indentation of the red bench.
The Polish name is associated with the color of the rocks below the pass, the Slovak name is "transverse pass". The area of the pass is made of mylonites and is covered with a rich flora of plants. Despite the harsh conditions, 50 species of vascular plants were found here, including as many as 8 species of scale.
First known tourist crossings: summer: Gustav Müller, Wilhelm Roxer and his brother, in 1846 Winter: Tibold Krygcza, Lajos Rokfalusa and Zoltán Votiska, April 15, 1911.
