Facts and practical information
ZDZNA Castle - the ruins of a medieval castle in the historical region of Turiec in Slovakia, today in the Martin poviat in the Żyliński country.
The castle was built on the top of the limestone Mount ZbwV, which is the northernmost fragment of the mountain Żar group. It rises 500 m above the village of Kláštor under Zbwom. He was the oldest castle in the Turczańska Valley. It was probably created in the 12th century. As Castrum Turus, it appears in a document issued in 1243 in the office of the Hungarian king Beli IV, who had just found shelter from the Tatar Nave in 1241-1242. We learn about the builder of the castle, Andrzej, son of Iwanek, from another Beli IV magazine from 1253.
From the middle of the 13th century, the royal castle belonged to the committee, but in 1320 it passed into church hands. Probably at that time it was expanded with a distant lower part by about 100 m. When in 1339 Turiec was separated from the great Zwoleń sperm and the Independent Turczański Committee was established, the Sklabiński Castle became its headquarters. The meaning of the Turczan castle has dropped and from that time its new name comes: Zawv.
In 1530, the Castle Crew commander subjected Zabound to the supporters of the Zápolyów. Later, the castle was captured by the army of King Ferdinand and Habsburg, damaging it firmly. In 1605 he passed into the hands of the insurgents of Stefan Bocskaya, in 1681 - Kurwiec Emeryk Thököly, and in 1705 - the army of Franciszek II Rakoczy. After the collapse of the Rakoczy Uprising, the castle also declined. To this day, the ruins of the lower castle have survived quite well. The upper castle buildings are only legible from the terrain configuration.
The tourist trail leads to the Zabv castle from the monastery. An interesting panorama of the Turczańska Valley and the mountain races surrounding it.
