The Lelwel hartebeest, also known as Jackson's hartebeest, is a captivating antelope indigenous to various African countries, including the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. One distinctive feature of this species is its capacity to interbreed with other hartebeest species. For instance, when it mates with Coke's hartebeest, the offspring is the Kenya Highland hartebeest—a hybrid of A. b. lelwel and A. b. cokii. Similarly, when it crossbreeds with Swayne's hartebeest, the result is the Neumann hartebeest—a combination of A. b. lelwel and A. b. swaynei.
