Capilla de San Pedro de Abajo, Güímar
Facts and practical information
The chapel of San Pedro de Abajo, in the municipality of Güímar, island of Tenerife, is a simple construction with a square floor plan, with masonry walls and concrete blocks, with a four-sided roof of Arabic tiles. Its most representative element is the large semicircular doorway in stonework. Inside, the frescoes depict medallions with vases on the side walls, while in the background there is a canopy with angels.
The protected area includes two earthen houses flanking the chapel, with the same solution in the roof and modified openings; while on the other side of the street of San Pedro de Abajo, the square is the scene of various events during the patron saint's festivities.
In 2012 was placed in the church an image of the Virgin of Luján, the image was donated by an Argentine citizen living in Tenerife, a native of the city of Luján. The solemn enthronement of the Virgin was promoted by the Consulate of the Argentine Republic in the Canary Islands and the chapel of San Pedro de Abajo. Also collaborated in this act, the House of Argentina in Tenerife and the City Council of Güímar.
