Parque Las Indias, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The Parque Las Indias is located in the neighborhood El Perú in Santa Cruz de Tenerife bordering the neighborhood La Salud.

The park was a project carried out by architects Federico García Barba and José Lorenzo García García García, as an environment to unite the urbanistically unconnected neighbourhoods of Cruz del Señor and La Salud. This project, presented in July 1983, won two prizes. The construction of the park was completed nine years later, in November 1992.

The park has a triangular geometry spread over a sloping surface of 22,000 m², with a slope of over 11%. Due to the slope, in order to make the most of the terrain and facilitate walking, it has five square squares distributed longitudinally in a staggered manner, with views towards the east. Each one has a specific function, whether it is a strolling area with tree planting, a children's park, a dog area or a fitness area with equipment.

The entire outline of the park is surrounded by canary palm trees Phoenix canariensis, which give access to the streets Ribera, Eduardo Westerdahl, Leopoldo de la Rosa Olivera, the roundabout of Avenida Venezuela and Buenaventura Bonnet.

The park has green areas made up of grass and trees of different species, crossed by asphalted paths that connect the different squares of the park and connect the adjacent streets. Between the paths we find benches, some covered with wooden constructions and others unmade, and in the grassy area different species of trees and plants, as well as a sculpture in the shape of a cross called Macla, made by Eduardo Gregorio on the occasion of the I International Exhibition of Street Sculpture held in the city between 1973 and 1974.
