Museu d'Art Modern, Tarragona
Facts and practical information
The Tarragona Provincial Council's Museum of Modern Art was created in 1976 to promote the study and knowledge of modern and contemporary art and also to conserve and display its artistic heritage and share it with the community. It was set up for this purpose, as the Museum, which has an auxiliary library, is a documentation centre and photographic archive. The building that houses the Museum, located in the Upper Part of Tarragona, is the result of the union of three 18th century houses and was restored by the architect Jaume Mutlló. In 1991 it was restored and structurally refurbished as it is known today.
In 2008 the Museum of Modern Art presented the renovation of its permanent exhibition with a new museographic project that brings an important didactic character to the presentation of the collections.
In order to bring art closer to a wide range of children and young people, the Museum of Modern Art offers schools, through the MAMT Pedagogical Service, the possibility of guided tours for school groups from the age of three, by appointment. The Pedagogical Service expands its pedagogical offer every year in order to involve the teaching community in learning about modern and contemporary art.
