Iglesia de San Marcos, Icod de los Vinos

The Parroquia Matriz de San Marcos Evangelista located in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos, island of Tenerife is the most important religious construction of Icod and its region, tracing its origins to the small hermitage, subsidiary of the Parroquia Matriz del Apóstol Santiago de Los Realejos, that around 1500 was erected in this same place, as a result of the appearance of the image of San Marcos Evangelista, which tradition places on the beach that bears his name before the Castilian conquest, and which was elevated to the category of parish in 1515, together with the San Pedro de Daute, in the neighbouring municipality of Garachico.
