Lago de la Casa de Campo, Madrid
Facts and practical information
The Casa de Campo lake is an artificial pond of Renaissance origin, located in the park of the same name, within one of the most extensive forest areas of Madrid. It comes from the partial conjunction of a series of primitive reservoirs, built in the 1560s by Pierre Jasen and Adrian van der Müller, within the landscape project that Philip II entrusted to the architect Juan Bautista de Toledo, for the conditioning of the Royal Site of the Casa de Campo.
The current lake has a surface area of 80,150 m² and a water volume of 164,883 m³. It has a jetty, which allows recreational boating, and is enabled for the practice of certain sports, such as Olympic rowing, canoeing, kayak-polo, sport fishing with return or triathlon.
