Playa de Ostende, Castro Urdiales
Facts and practical information
Ostende or Urdiales beach is located in the municipality of Castro-Urdiales, in Spain. It is shell-shaped, with a length of 900 metres and an average width of 50 metres. It is divided into two sections, the first of smaller size called "the slaughterhouse", for having been located in the vicinity of the old municipal slaughterhouse. Separated from this by the Punta de los Cuervos is the Playa de Ostende, larger. The beach was created in the early nineties with gravel quarry, although there are areas, such as near the sports center Peru Zaballa in which natural sand has been gradually replacing the crushed stone.
