Rande Bridge
Facts and practical information
The Rande Bridge, an impressive feat of engineering, stands as an iconic landmark in the northwest region of Spain. Officially known as the Vigo Rande Bridge, this cable-stayed bridge spans the Ría de Vigo, connecting the municipalities of Redondela and Moaña. Completed in 1981, the bridge plays a vital role in the Atlantic Corridor, facilitating the flow of traffic and commerce between Spain and Portugal.
With a total length of 1,558 meters and a main span of 400 meters, the Rande Bridge is notable for its design and the technical challenges it overcame during construction. The bridge's towers reach a height of 148 meters, making it a prominent feature on the Galician landscape. The structure was engineered to withstand the harsh maritime conditions of the region, ensuring durability and the safety of the thousands of vehicles that cross it daily.
In 2015, an expansion project was initiated to accommodate the increasing traffic demand, adding two extra lanes and widening the existing ones. This enhancement was completed in 2018, further solidifying the bridge's role as a critical transportation artery and a testament to modern infrastructure development.
