Castillo de Torrejón de Velasco
Facts and practical information
Torrejón de Velasco Castle, also called Puñonrostro Castle, is located in the Spanish municipality of the same name, in the southern part of the Community of Madrid.
It was privately owned until 2002 and in that year it became the property of the City Council. Given its delicate state of conservation at that time, it was included in the Red List of endangered heritage, which the association Hispania Nostra began to draw up in 2006.
With funds from the Community of Madrid, firstly consolidation work was carried out on the keep and in February 2012 other processes of recovery and restoration of the fortress are underway. On the occasion of the rehabilitation of the castle, in collaboration with GREFA, has been used to design small hollows for birds such as kestrels, endangered, can nest within its walls.
