Chimenea de la central térmica de La Misericordia, Málaga

Facts and practical information
The chimney of the electricity factory or Central Térmica de La Misericordia in Málaga was built between 1957 and 1960 as part of a government programme of power stations located on the coast entrusted to the National Institute of Industry, which at the same time built the now defunct power stations in Almería and Cádiz. The entry into operation of the Malaga plant should be considered in relation to the socioeconomic phenomenon of the tourist boom on the Costa del Sol.
The Malaga Thermal Power Station was built on the project of the industrial engineers E. Sánchez Conde and J. L. Cofre, who belonged to the company Auxini.
Of the historical fact that was the industrial development of Malaga, few constructions remain, including a series of chimneys along the western coastline. These chimneys, due to their formal characteristics and dimensions, have contributed to create a characteristic landscape of the city that can be seen especially from the sea and the bay.
