Sant Antoni de la Rua
Facts and practical information
San Antonio de la Rua is the Romanesque church of the entity of poblacióne La Rua, of the municipality of Abella de la Conca, in the region of Pallars Jussá. It is currently dedicated to Saint Anthony Abbot, but this is not the original dedication. It is believed that it was dedicated to Saint Peter, and that it was linked to the Monastery of Santa Cecília d'Elins.
Moreover, the fact that until recently the main feast celebrated in the village was that of the Holy Trinity, which is the patron saint of the church of Faidella, led many people to believe that this was the patron saint of the church of La Rua.
It is a building with a single nave covered with a barrel vault. It has no main arches, but it does have a very short presbytery arch. The door is oriented to the west, and also to the west there is a simple belfry with a belfry, with a single eye. A double spill window centres the apse.
The only decoration is in the apse: Lombard arcades under the eaves of the roof, with lesenes forming groups of four blind arches.
The 11th-century structure is made of well-ordered ashlars, made of pumice stone in the most important places, to form a decorative motif.
The church is situated on top of the cliff and has a small cemetery next to it. A special feature is in the belfry: as in other churches in Pallars, the bell is made from the shell casing of a shell from the Spanish Civil War.
No relevant documents have been preserved about this temple.
