Iglesia de Arroyuelos

Facts and practical information
For other churches under the same invocation, see Church of San Acisclo and Santa Victoria.
The cave church of Arroyuelos, in the municipality of Valderredible, is located in the northwestern end of the village of Arroyuelos and was dedicated to Saints Acisclo and Victoria. The chronology of this type of manifestations has been controversial.
Some authors advocate the origin of these temples in the Visigothic period by inscriptions found in other churches, with a chronology prior to the year 711 when the Arab conquest began.
In the case of Arroyuelos, the characteristics of Mozarabic architecture can be clearly seen in the systematic use of the horseshoe arch, in plan and elevation, and in the complication of the excavated spaces, which allows a clearer dating than in the rest of the hypogean constructions of Valderredible, which can be placed around the 10th century.
