The Plaza de los Bandos is located in the historic center of the city of Salamanca, a few meters from the Plaza Mayor.
Its name is related to the episodes that took place during many years of the 15th century, in which families of the nobility disputed the right to govern the city and which was pacified by San Juan de Sahagún. This conflict is known as the War of the Bands.
On the first floor of number 3 of the Plaza de los Bandos, a building now demolished, the writer Carmen Martin Gaite was born on December 8, 1925.
