The monastery of Santa María la Real de Vileña was founded by Queen Urraca López de Haro, widow of King Ferdinand II of León, and incorporated into the Cistercian Order as a daughter abbey of the monastery of Santa María la Real de las Huelgas on 14 April 1222. The old monastery, which is in ruins, was located in the village of Vileña, in the Bureba region.
