The Historical Museum of Las Merindades is located in the Castle of the Velasco family in Medina de Pomar, in the region of Las Merindades, Burgos. This fortress was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1931, and is the symbol of the town and of the power of the family that dominated this land in the Middle Ages. It was built in the 14th century by the powerful lineage of the Velasco family. It was a palace and defensive castle. Its interior, which still bears the imprint of the Mudejar style, has been fitted out to house this museum.
An ogival door gives access to the central body of the Alcazar, where the visitors' reception area is located.
