Castillo de Chera
Facts and practical information
The castle of Chera, is a fortress of Muslim origin located in the province of Valencia, which is located on a hill located one kilometre from the population, from which dominated the surrounding fertile plain, the Tormagal gorge and the road from Requena to Chulilla. It is unknown when it was built although considering the presence of a barbican, a construction element introduced in the Iberian Peninsula by the Almoravids, can be placed in the early twelfth century. It is estimated that its main function was to protect the Muslims who lived and worked the lands of the 25 adjoining villages.
