Castell de Mequinensa, Mequinenza
Facts and practical information
The castle of Mequinenza is an intact palace-castle on top of a hill overlooking the confluence of the rivers Ebro, Segre and Cinca, located in the homonymous town in Aragon. It was built by the Moncada family, lords of the barony of Mequinenza. It dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, although in 1959 it was considerably reformed by the architect Adolf Florensa. It marks the border between Aragon and Catalonia, and between the provinces of Zaragoza and Lleida.
Although it is currently a private property that belongs to the ENDESA Foundation, the Castle can be visited on Tuesday mornings on non-working days. To do so, please contact the Tourist Office of the Town Hall of Mequinenza.
