Atalaya Sur del Burgo
Facts and practical information
The Atalaya Sur del Burgo, located in the Spanish municipality of El Burgo de Osma-Ciudad de Osma -belonging to the province of Soria in the autonomous community of Castilla y León-, is a construction made of limestone ashlars, with circular plan and cylindrical elevation that preserves a height of more than eight metres. It is possible to distinguish the imprint of a formwork with which the construction was made and the mechinales of subjection of the beams, presenting ground floor and two floors. On the ground floor there are two small lintel windows with loopholes that are now closed and on the first floor there is an entrance door with a rectangular linteled opening with a lintel formed by a large slab and a wooden lintel. From its privileged location it dominates a wide territory, interrelating functionally and visually with other elements of the system of heritage value, such as the Watchtowers of Uxama and the Castle of Gormaz.
