Facts About Trocadero
Trocadero, affectionately known as Troca, is a cherished Swedish soda that blends apple and orange flavors with a hint of caffeine. It first appeared on the market in 1953, launched by Saturnus AB, quickly becoming a favorite, particularly in northern Sweden, where it is often referred to as the "national beverage of Norrland." The name Trocadero has its origins in Paris, though Swedes have their own unique pronunciation.
The debut of Trocadero coincided with the lifting of Sweden's ban on cola drinks in 1953. At that time, it was one of the few sodas, apart from cola, to include caffeine. Over time, Saturnus AB shifted its focus towards liquor essences and drink mixes, leading to the discontinuation of Trocadero. In 2006, the brand was acquired by NordArom AB, and by 2017, it found a new home with Spendrups Bryggeri AB. Spendrups now holds the exclusive rights to produce Trocadero after acquiring other breweries.
Trocadero isn't just a beverage; it's also a treat! Trocadero-flavored jelly candies capture the soda's distinctive taste. In 2005, Fagerströms Karamellfabrik even produced Trocadero hard candy, although it seems they have since ceased production.
As for what’s inside this fizzy favorite, Trocadero’s ingredients include carbonated water, sugar, apple and orange juice, caffeine, citric acid, phosphoric acid, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, caramel coloring (E150D), and ascorbic acid as an antioxidant.
