Västergötland Museum is a regional museum owned by a foundation. It is located in Skara and is run by the Västergötland Museum Foundation, which has Västra Götaland Region, Skara Municipality and the Västergötland Fornminnesförening as founders. The museum building was designed by Charles Lindholm and erected in 1919, but the first museum under its current name was opened in 1865. From 1978 to 1999, the name was Skaraborg County Museum in the then Skaraborg County.
