Facts and practical information
The Erlach Monument in Bern is an equestrian statue of Rudolf von Erlach, the legendary victor of the Battle of Laupen.
It was designed by Joseph Simon Volmar, erected by Bernese architect Gottfried Debler together with Solothurn master stonemason Urs Bargetzi, and unveiled on Bern's Münsterplatz on May 12, 1849. In 1961 it was removed from there and since July 1969 has stood on the Grabenpromenade opposite the Bern City Theater.
On the front side of the monument base is written: "Rudolf von Erlach, Sieger bei Laupen, den 21. Brachmonat 1339". On each of the two long sides there is another inscription, namely the following on the right as seen from the rider: To the left of the rider is the second inscription:
