Schloss Salenstein
Facts and practical information
Salenstein Castle is located in the municipality of Salenstein in the district of Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.
In the immediate vicinity there were originally two castles with the name "Salenstein", namely the castle Ober-Salenstein described here and on a spur of the same rocky ridge further down the castle Nieder-Salenstein, which was already broken in 1599 and today completely demolished on the surface. In about the same alignment, on the other side of the ravine, is the Mannenbach Chapel, which still exists today and is also drawn by Herrliberger. It is said to have been donated by the Lords of Salenstein in 1155, with medieval frescoes.
