Facts About Chinese Green Tree Viper
Trimeresurus stejnegeri, commonly referred to as Stejneger's pit viper, the Chinese pit viper, or the bamboo viper, is a venomous snake indigenous to Asia. Named in honor of the American herpetologist Leonhard Stejneger, this species can reach lengths up to 75 centimeters and is characterized by distinct dorsal scales and unique color patterns.
Trimeresurus stejnegeri inhabits various regions across Asia, including India, Nepal, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. It thrives in forested environments, ranging from sea level to elevations of up to 2,000 meters. The pit viper's venom contains a potent hemotoxin, capable of causing severe pain, tissue necrosis, swelling, and discoloration of the skin and muscle at the bite site. The severity of symptoms is influenced by the quantity of venom injected and the depth of the bite.
