Taiwan Travel Weather

Taiwan is best visited during the spring months of April to June or the autumn months of mid-September to November. The island's weather is sunny then, with temperatures hovering between 24°C and 30°C. True, there may be some fleeting rainfall, but it is not so frequent and intense as to complicate the visit. Choosing the aforementioned date, we have a chance for a more intimate holiday, as we will avoid the crowd of tourists, most of whom come to Taiwan in summer (from July to mid-September).

In spring, nature surprises with its beauty, everything turns green and blooms. That's why it's a very good time to visit Taroko National Park, Yangmingshan National Park and Alishan National Scenic Area, where stretches of flower-covered meadows and forests create magnificent landscapes. Nature in its autumn setting also encourages exploration of the parks. The aura is also favorable for hikers and mountain trekkers (including Elephant Mountain). The trails are spectacular, and climbing on warm, sunny days is truly enjoyable.

The summer months from July to mid-September are a popular period for tourists, however, the weather during this time is not ideal. The days get hotter and more humid, and there is also an increased risk of typhoons. Temperatures oscillate between 30°C and 35°C, rainfall intensifies, often in the form of fleeting but intense downpours. The heat can give a hard time during sightseeing, especially for those unaccustomed to high temperatures and humid air. And rainfall can make hiking and climbing in the higher elevations difficult. Your best bet then is to visit the northern part of the island, including Taipei, where temperatures are not as high, or choose beaches in southern Taiwan, especially those in Kenting National Park and Penghu Island, which offer a cool respite from the rains and summer heat.

The winter period, which lasts from December to March, is usually quite chilly. The days are shorter and less sunny, although there is less rainfall, the sky is more often overcast. The weather is not ideal, but it is possible to visit cities or organize hiking and mountain trekking without much difficulty. Temperatures in the northern regions of the island (including Taipei) range from 15°C - 20°C, however, the further south you go, the warmer it gets. In Kenting National Park, the mercury bar rises to 26°C, guaranteeing good beach and sea bathing conditions. During the winter season, you can also enjoy bathing in hot springs, of which there are more than 150 in Taiwan.
