In Chinese culture, deer penis is also considered a remedy for athletic injuries, particularly when infused in alcohol to produce deer penis wine. This preparation is believed to enhance virility and impart a warming effect on the body. However, during the 2008 Summer Olympics in China, athletes were prohibited from consuming deer penis due to fears that it might contain substances such as ephedrine, which could be classified as performance-enhancing drugs.
