Facts About Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper
The Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper, a variety of Capsicum chinense, is renowned for being one of the hottest peppers in the world. Originating from Trinidad and Tobago, this fiery pepper was named after Butch Taylor by Neil Smith of The Hippy Seed Company. Its distinctive pointed end, resembling a scorpion’s stinger, makes it easily recognizable.
In 2011, this pepper held the prestigious title of the world's hottest pepper, boasting a scorching 1,463,700 Scoville heat units (SHU). The secret to its intense heat? The soil it grows in, enriched with liquid runoff from a worm farm.
However, the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T’s reign was short-lived. In 2013, the Carolina Reaper took the crown with a blistering rating of 1,569,300 SHU, as confirmed by the Guinness World Records.
