"The Funeral of Phocion" is a captivating landscape painting created in 1648 by the French artist Nicolas Poussin. This artwork is also known by several other titles, including "The Burial of Phocion" "Landscape with the Funeral of Phocion" and "Landscape with the Body of Phocion Carried out of Athens."
The painting depicts an episode from the life of Phocion, a distinguished Athenian statesman from the 4th century BC. Poussin's work masterfully intertwines historical narrative with stunning landscape art, bringing the ancient story to life.
There are three known versions of "The Funeral of Phocion." One is housed in the Louvre in Paris, another is part of the collection at the National Museum Cardiff, and the third resides in the Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut, United States.
