Facts About Sharp-mouthed lizard
Anolis pulchellus, commonly referred to as the Puerto Rican bush anole, snake anole, or sharp-mouthed lizard, is a small lizard belonging to the Dactyloidae family. This species is predominantly found in Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the Virgin Islands. These lizards typically measure between 35 to 43 mm in length from snout to vent and exhibit a yellow-brown coloration. Males are particularly striking due to their purple dewlap, which fades into a crimson tip.
Anolis species in the Greater Antilles have captivated researchers because of their remarkable adaptive radiation. Notably, species on the same island are more closely related to each other than to those on neighboring islands. Despite the fact that species have diverged independently on each island, similar sets of habitat specialists, known as ecomorphs, have evolved. Anolis pulchellus is classified as a grass-bush anole, indicating that it primarily inhabits bushes or grassy areas.
